Polymer moulds to the heat of my hands, which I can then form fluidly to create undulating forms. To make this material more sustainable, I reuse the pieces to create various installations in response to different subjects.
The starting point is to form many small, disparate fragments. Then, once fired, patiently slot and balance a number of parts into one another. Arranging and rearranging them, creating integrated structures; many are complex in their delicate poise, some counter balance. These separate pieces aren’t ever adhered in anyway, so not only does there have to be an aesthetic equilibrium, there also has to be stability in the assembly so that they can withstand exhibition without falling. This takes patience, focus and a steady hand and eye.
This concept explores the complex balance I have to walk everyday, wondering when the next relapse will hit and everything becomes un-adhered once more. This is when I am forced to pick up the fragments, many broken beyond repair during each deterioration, rebuilding my life anew, forming it in a different way using the parts that are left over.
