Peace
“I release you, my beautiful and terrible fear. I release you. You were my beloved and hated twin, but now, I don’t know you as myself.” – Joy Harjo, Muscogee Nation, three-time Poet Laureate, USA.
For any kind of peace to hold, we have to work on our inner balance. It takes patience and the letting go of beliefs that separate us. If we remember that the cosmos lies within us, we can re-wild the ancient truths written deep within our DNA. The truths that tell us how to meet each living being on this earth in gentle symbiosis.
Initially, I created many small, disparate fragments. Then, patiently slotted three or four parts into one another. Arranged and rearranged them, finding forms to create integrated structures. These pieces aren’t adhered in anyway, so not only does there have to be an aesthetic equilibrium, there also has to be a physical balance so that they can withstand exhibition without falling. I have to sit in a long period of equanimity with them, to be sure they will hold. Finally, I work out the series, nurturing further the kinship that can be achieved from the individual elements.
